Problem with Integrated Intel Extreme GraphicsForum: HD Install Topic: Problem with Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics started by: dny58 Posted by dny58 on Mar. 09 2005,09:15
HiI have a problem with a DELL Sx270 System (82865G Integrated Graphic) and a DSL 0.9.3 HD-Install. When I start the Linux- System I get the message: Undefined mode number No one of this video modes works. I've no Icons on the desktop and only a color- depth of 8 bit. I tried already dsl vga=normal xsetup at startup with no success. Xfbdef crashed totally and Xvesa started only at 8bit without icons and background. Has somebody any idea? Thank you Posted by henk.1955 on Mar. 09 2005,09:31
i have a gx260, i had to change the onboard video buffer size value in the bios from 1M to 8M

I tried this too. Have you changed the buffer before DSL HD-Install or later. I changed the buffer only after my HD- Install (the same problems).

You also need to upgrade your Dell BIOS.Early revs of the BIOS did not work correctly with the "shared" video RAM setting. Also, you should be able to boot with vga=normal and then install the XFree86.dsl extension. When using the XFree86.dsl extension, use the i810?? Xserver and it should work fine at just about any resolution. Posted by dny58 on Mar. 10 2005,12:35
HiI've have updated my bios to the newest revision. The Sx270 has no direct internet- connection so I downloaded the XFree86.dsl (File and info by henk1955). 1. CHANGE /home/dsl/.xserverrc to: exec /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 -nolisten tcp 2. CREATE a /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (I've adapted the henk1955 example XF86Config -file) Finally- but I'm not sure- I loaded the file with the command: mydsl-load xfree86.dsl and rebooted the machine But nothing has been changed - it's still the same problem. (and the wrong xserver?) What should I do now? Thanks Posted by cbagger01 on Mar. 11 2005,03:36
Try the i810 server instead of the other one? Also, you could boot up a knoppix disk and then save your knoppix-generated XF86Config-4 file and use it for DSL. Posted by batman on Mar. 30 2005,15:08
