Hi,

i've build a fanless, driveless and windowsless PC and want to boot DSL from an 128MB CompactFlash card directly over the ATA-Interface.  (It's an interface between CF and ATA-cable, so that you can directly boot from CF like it is a harddisk)
I think I've to install DSL on the CF like on HD, but I do not really know how...
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hi folks,

i am just in the process of seting up my own wifi multimedia box with dsl using a 512MB cf.

Works great so far - here is what i did:

create 2 partitions: 1 55MB       2 remainder of space
use frugal install
(maybe copy script to writeable /ramdisk and comment out "reboot" - very UNHANDY if any error occurs while installing dsl to disk!!!)

install dsl image in first partition and backup your configuration on second partition

reboot

you should now be runing from cf just as if it was dsl from cd ...

Not very fast to boot - but with such a powersaving setup why not let it run on and on and on ...

Vector,
You have to cfdisk the cf.  Log into a shell and set yourself up as root (sudo su) then execute cfdisk /dev/hda (might have to specify hda1).  Setup the partitions as you like, then come out to the menus and under apps tools select the frugal install. (if that doesnt work, open a shell, get to root (sudo su) then execute sh /usr/sbin/frugal_instal.sh.  This is what I had to do).  This will install the os on the partition of choice and ask you a bunch of other questions.  After that, it should reboot itself.  On my machine, after the reboot, I just came up to a blank screen with an L on it.  I had to change the bios settings to not try to automatically setup the hard drive type.  I specified my size (512mb) and then everything went ok.  Let me know if this works or not.
