I know that DSL is Debian based. Does anyone here have any experience using Debian-based drivers for 56K internal software modems?

I don't know what hardware I'm working with yet; this will be somebody's first PC, probably fairly old, and they don't have a lot of bad habits yet. They will be using a dial-up connection to surf the web and read and write E-mail. I have an old 33K modem on my own DSL box that I don't need any more which was recognized by Win98 but I haven't tried to use it under Win95 OSR 1, which is what I would prefer for their windoze partition (if one is necessary) because it will keep them out of trouble. I would ideally like to avoid Windows altogether, but I'm not sure how realistic that is given my n00b status and the person's financial limitations.

Any advice at all is greatly appreciated.
