No cdrom available.

I'm hoping to install DSL to a compact flash card with something like

dd if=dsl.img of=/dev/sdb1

How do I roughly go about that?

Is it a laptop? If it is then your best option would be either a single floppy boot and then download OR you might like to try out using a 2.5" to 3.5" converter. As for installing it onto a CF card, I believe the latest revision (1.0rc1) has a option under the system menu to do a frugal install.

It's a computer I've built from old parts with only one working IDE channel.

On that channel I've put a CF to IDE convertor.

I have a CF reader/writer available to me so I hope to image a distro to the CF card using that.

The use for this computer will be for surfing and thinclient to save electricity and be silent.
