Any help on this would be appreciated.  I'm trying to install DSL to the hard drive inside a virtual machine.  Whenever I try to do it cfdisk and fdisk cannot find the hard drive.  I've configured the drive as IDE in VMWare, and still no luck.

I had this same problem trying to do a HD install using QEMU. I'm a total Linux noobie, so it took me a while to figure it out. The cfdisk program needs root access, and you don't have that by default (which is standard procedure as far as Linux is concerned). Enter the command "sudo su", then you can run cfdisk to make your partition, followed by the DSL HD install. Worked like a charm for me!

had a same problem with vmware 5beta rc2..

apparently you'd have to allocate the virtual hard drive, in order to run cfdisk from DSL.
