I have loads of unpartitioned space on a 120gig promise 20276 controlled raid array.

When I start DSL, the first line notes that IDE-SOFTRAID detects devices and is controlling them.  However, after bootup, no raid array has been created in /etc/fstab.  The individual disks are apparent at hde and hdg, but this doesnt do anyone any good.

I've read the ATA-RAID howto, and I'm left scratching my head a bit.  I guess I'm really looking for pointers on whether or not it is even possible to get ATARAID to recognize a preexisting raid array, and how I would go about doing it.

I'm a total n00b to DSL, and its really damn cool.  The idea of being able to walk around with my own, personalized, secure, self contained OS is great.

Thank you in advance for any help.

It is possible that the raid modules were removed from DSL to save space.  If so, you may be able to use knoppix to talk to your array.  And if you get the right knoppix version (3.4 5-17-2004) you can even copy the modules over as a custom myDSL extension.

Try searching google for your model of raid controller and knoppix
