I set up in my bios to boot from CD-Rom. And when it does it says CDROM Boot Failure Please Insert CD and Press Enter. The cd is in the CDROM. Any help is appreciated.

Did your burn the CD correctly?

If you insert the CD into a MSWindows computer and view it with Windows Explorer, you should see something like:

KNOPPIX\
boot\
lost+found\
index.html

If you see something like:

dsl1.0.iso

in the explorer window then you burned the cd incorrectly.

Make sure that you choose something like "Burn CD image" or "Burn image file" from the CD burning program menu, NOT "Make an ISO CD".

Well I open it up and it shows all the files like you said before. But I'm still getting that error. I don't have an option to burn an image.

You may want to check the MD5 checksum.  I've burned some bad CD's in my time and gotten some "unexpected" results, that is, no boot, and no real good reason, until I burned another CD.

Good luck!

Which image should i use...the syslinux one or other one. What are the differences?

Unless you have a fairly new computer (less than 3 years old), I would give the syslinux version a try.

Ok, I got it working.I just got an ISO burner and BAM!!! Instant DSL!

Well...my screen goes blank after some initialization steps. I think it's just before going to graphical mode.

Maybe its because I have a DVI lcd monitor?

Help please!

p.s.: using syslinux version

I have one of those, it's a Dell Ultrasharp. I have to use "vga=normal" to get it to boot, I believe.
Forgive me if I get the various LiveCD's mixed up. That might be just for Knoppix, but may work on DSL, worth a try, anyway.
(I'm testing the AmaroK LiveCD tonight, based on PCLinuxOS)
So many distro's, so little time.
I do appreciate the syslinux versions of DSL,   they boot on my older PC's.

Now I also tried the non-syslinux version...still goes blank after some init steps.

WTF?

Did you try booting with the:

dsl vga=normal xsetup

boot command?

Posted by Lobo on April 16 2005,07:26
Don't wanna that crappy linux console style view. Me wants x.

From your answer, I would have to call that a "no".

Otherwise you would know that the command will eventually get up into a graphical XWindows desktop unless your video card refuses to adhere to any standard graphics BIOS commands.
