If I do an HDD install of DSL then when it boots it won't use a RAMdisk....  will it?  If that's the case, will it run well on a 266 with 32mb RAM, or should I put more RAM in that machine?

Cheers!

If you just do a hdd install (NOT frugal), it will uncompress everything (100+ mb), and not use the ram disk.

266 mhz with 32 mb ram will run dsl no problem. But you may want to set up a swap file so you can run larger applications.
