Which is more robust LVM or software raid? I’m not talking about hard drive failure or data redundancy. I am asking about which is more complex and likely to get screwed from file corruption or not shutting the DSL box down properly. Also, which gives better performance speed wise. What are the pros and cons of each? I have setup LVM already using a couple of empty hard drives, but I am also going to check out software raid. My ultimate goal is to create one large volume out of several drives and share this large volume using samba. Thanks for the help.

LVM and raid are not mutually exclusive concepts. In fact, you may get better performance by using them both at the same time. I don't use either, but then again I am just a generic desktop user. Here is an interesting article on the subject including a nice practical example: < http://www.aplawrence.com/Linux/lvm.html > |
