MyDSL questionForum: HD Install Topic: MyDSL question started by: drewb0y Posted by drewb0y on May 10 2005,09:20
OK, I have a new HD Install, dual boot w/ XP on an older IBM Thinkpad. Everything is great so far. My only question is about the MyDSL downloads. I have installed DSL 1.1. When I select various items from the MyDSL download app or install from the cd's i have made from the mirror sites using the file manager, as documented here on the site, it will show the entry for the last item installed under MyDSL in the menu, but does not add any entries at all to the program menu. I thought I was doing great doing the install and then installing various .dsl's from the 2 cd's i burned from the mirror sites, one after the the other, but none of them appear in the menus now. Is this just because the .dsl's have not been updated to support the newest release or what? I was assuming that as part of the program installation, an entry would be made in the menu for starting the installed programs. Like the Gimp 2.2 for example. Am I off track here or what? If the menu entries are not created I may as welll do a manual install.Same situation occurs for the themes and most of the .tar.gz files in the mirrors. I extracted all the themes and copied to the proper folders but on selecting the desktop theme part of the menu, none of the new ones show. Any ideas, suggestions would be helpful, as DSL runs most efficeiently on my celeron 466 than other distros. Posted by drewb0y on May 10 2005,09:39
I might have figured it out with the following post < Possible explanation > will post with results after i reinstall as single user Posted by mikshaw on May 10 2005,15:03
Disappearing menu items could be the result of a faulty extension. If the included menu file doesn't have a newline at the end it may cause multiple menu items to be added to the same line in .fluxbox/menu.Extracting myDSL extensions manually is unnecessary, and will prevent menu items from magically appearing. Use the myDSL system to install DSL applications. < http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/talk/node/69 > |
