A newbie, I have an older laptop (ibm 120 mhz-no cd-rom). I loaded dsl ontop my laptop hdd via notebook/pc converter in my regular desktop. When I installed the notebook/hdd back into the laptop-- the machine bootup and i have changed the password, but i am stuck at some screen asking for a box-login password and username--Can someone help me !!!!!!

First, when you used that "pc/notebook converter", does it allow you to boot your desktop pc from the notebook hd? If yes, did you try it and what happened?

Second, I think the "loadlin install" procedure is suitable for your case. Refer to < http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/talk/node/191 > for more information. Essentially, what you do are the following:

- Either burn the DSL iso to a CD or open the DSL iso with a CD iso image editor software, using another computer. Copy the Knoppix folder and the isolinux folder (inside the boot folder) to a temporary location on your desktop.
- Obtain the Loadlin package and also put it on a temporary location on your desktop.
- Format the notebook hd using DOS or Windows 9x, making sure that this hd will be bootable to DOS command prompt. Also make sure that this hd will have a text editor (usually EDIT.EXE or EDIT.COM comes with DOS or Windows).
- Connect your notebook hd to your desktop and copy the Knoppix folder, isolinux folder, and loadlin files to your notebook hd. The loadlin files should be placed inside the isolinux folder.
- Put the notebook hd back to the notebook computer and boot to DOS. Then follow the instructions for Loadlin install starting from step 5.
