How can I do this?Forum: HD Install Topic: How can I do this? started by: Fallen Kell Posted by Fallen Kell on May 25 2005,20:24
Basically I need to install onto the hard drive, but still have it act as if it is on the CD (i.e. create ram disk, mount all dirs onto the ram disk and then chroot to the ram disk).I have a hard drive install setup the way I need it configured and I was about to make a re-mastered iso of this setup. But I don't know how to install it the way I want afterwards. In theory, I want to first have the hard drive mount as RW onto the ram disk, and then change manually afterward (basically freezing the config so that it can not be changed on that system without a complete re-install). Any ideas or suggestions? Is this something the frugal install would do? (I have not been able to get much information about that except for the fact that it still uses the compressed filesystem, which is not something that is required for me, but if I have to live with it I will to get it to still mount onto a ram disk). YesFrugal install or poorman's install will do exactly as described. Posted by Fallen Kell on May 26 2005,13:38
Thanks cbagger01. I was hoping someone knew the answer to this. I've been going thru a real fast crash course on this the last few days and this really helps me out a LOT. (I really wasn't looking forward to disecting the CD version to put back the same boot process)I have to say, I really like this distro so far. It may make a convert out of me to a full debain for my main box and I know for a fact that I love DSL already for the systems they are going onto (basically they hopefully to be hassle free boxes, with the OS write protected in this way, it hopefully won't get clobbered by the people who use it).
