So... DSL works great when I boot off floppy/CD (non-cd-bootable bios) But I went through the instruction for hdinstall at < http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/talk/node/64 > and I can't boot off HD. It says DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. BIOS order is A then C, no disk in A. Partitions:

|name| |bootable|    |type|       |FS|       |size (MB)|
hda2         *           primary    Linux            1983
hda1                      primary    Linux swap     128

Not sure if its related, but for some reason I need to enter boot:expert dsl vga=normal or it will give me an error "Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry. Dropping you to a (very limited) shell"

I am not sure if it makes a difference, but I dont make my partitions bootable when I install. I am new so if someone can provide more info or correct me, please do.

correct..
no need for the DOS boot flag..

It doesn't solve cookiedoh's issue, just wanted to clarify.

cfdisk actually wont let me re-write to the MBR without a boot partition. Any other guesses out there?  :)
