ok, i burnt the dsl 1.1 image to cd, threw it in the cdtray, and rebooted. i set the bios to boot from the cdrom, but it didn't. it booted straight to win2k pro. how can i get it installed? i don't have a floppy drive in the computer, so i can't make a boot disk. currently i have win2k pro on the machine, is there anyway i can get it to install from win2k? or any other ideas for getting the cdrom to boot when i start the box?

How exactly did you burn the CD? Did you burn as a regular data CD, adding the ISO file to it, or did you create the CD from the disk image? Do you see the ISO file on the CD? An ISO needs to be burned as a CD image, not as a data file, otherwise you will end up with nothing more than a backup disk of the file you downloaded.

When you insert the CD disk into your win2k computer and look at it in Windows Explorer, do you see:dsl.iso or do you see: \KNOPPIX \boot \lost+found index.html If you see the first view, then you did not burn the CD-R disk properly. You need to burn it as a disk image instead of a regular data disk. For Nero5, you would choose File -> Burn Image For Nero6, you would choose Recorder -> Burn Image For other programs, look for a similar menu choice. Posted by synexic on June 06 2005,19:58
i burnt the cd right. i extracted the files from the ISO, then burnt them to cd.

That won't work....you're creating a regular data CD with the visible contents of a DSL CD, which doesn't include the boot sector. The ISO needs to be burned as an image in order to get a working bootable CD....see the last part of cbagger's post. Posted by ke4nt1 on June 06 2005,20:58
Nope, that won't do..Your only copying the data files from within the iso image. That does not make a CD bootable. But within the image " unseen" to a normal view, are the other items needed to make a bootable cd. Follow cbagger01's advice to make a correct disk.. 73 ke4nt Posted by cbagger01 on June 06 2005,22:54
Yes.Do it EXACTLY as listed in my previous post. Nero5 Top Menu: File -> Burn Image Nero6 Top Menu: Recorder -> Burn Image Or better yet, read this: < http://ubcd.sourceforge.net/faq.html > |
