Please post your computer specs. Are you using Windows? which version? How much RAM? Do you have a CD RW drive? Do you have a CD burning software? which one? Do you know how to use it? Do you know the distinction between "burning the image file" and "writing the image file"?All newbies are welcome. Just be prepared to provide as much information as necessary for you to get sensible help in this forum. Posted by d_underscore on June 07 2005,22:05
i am using an Athalon win98 pc 128mb ram with a cdrw drive i have roxio and MOSTLY know how to use it. i also have winrar and daemon tools i DO NOT know the diffrence between "writing the image file" and "burning the image file" Posted by Guest on June 07 2005,22:41
Then download only one file (dsl-1.2.iso). Actually, you could download its corresponding md5.txt file and use an md5sum checker to confirm that you downloaded without errors. But if you don't have the checker, just cross your fingers. If you have Roxio installed properly, you should see that the iso file will have a special icon when listed with Windows Explorer. This means you just load a fresh CD-R, double-click on the file, select the speed settings (and maybe "finalize CD"), and start burning. After the burning, use Windows Explorer to examine the contents of the CD. You should see at least the folders "boot" and "Knoppix". If your computer is set such that the CD drive comes first before the hard drive during boot, then all you have to do is reboot with the DSL CD in the CD drive. Otherwise, you have to enter the BIOS setup of your computer to enable this. Usually this is done at power-up by pressing the "Delete" key when you see that the computer is checking its memory. ok. scratch that last question for now. new problems. ive got my iso of DSL burnt, tested and it works. But, because of issues with the CD rom drives in the computer i need it on, i am not able to boot from the CD drive. *BUT* i AM able to insert a win start disk and access the CD rom with the drives that it loads. *so* is there a way to run DSL from DOS? EDIT: found it. im at work right now and i dont have a floppy, but i will try it soon. < http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub....ppy.img > Posted by forkart on June 19 2005,15:36
Use MagicISO built-in < ISO burner > to burn iso image to cd. < http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-burnwin.htm > |
