HD DSL install. Liking it alot!! Have it running a a 1GB partition on a Pll 333 laptop with 128MB RAM using a D-Link DWL-650 802.11b (RTL8180L)

My problem is that I cannont seem to edit any file at all. No matter which editor I use. I downloaded nedit and tried beaver to edit configuration files. Neither will work. Is there a trick to editing files in DSL? Ihave also installed the IceWM window manager, it seems to run about as well as Fluxbox, but is a bit more familiar looking.

Anyone have any suggestions on editing configuration files?

Any text editor should work.  My guess is that you're attempting to edit a file that is either on a readonly filesystem, or one that you do not have permission to edit.
What errors do you get?

Oh %&$%^U$, how stupid am I??

I was not logged in as root. My apologies for asking the stupid question. I am used to running as root on other distros.
