I have a DSL HD install on a P1 133 with 96MB of RAM, the hardware will not change on this box. I'm trying to speed up the boot process, I was able to cut it down quite a bit using the append options in lilo. Can I bypass the "autoconfiguring devices.." process? is it needed for every boot? Like I said, my hardware will not change. If it is possible, can somebody tell me how? thank you very much in advance. Posted by tempestuous on June 16 2005,14:48
Add the boot option "nohwsetup".If you want to see exactly what's going on, have a look at the main bootup script /etc/init.d/knoppix-autoconfig. Long bootup annoys me, too. Posted by namezk on June 21 2005,15:05
Thanks for the reply, I did try the nohwsetup in the append line in lilo, it did not work. The computer still goes through the green progress bar saying: Autoconfiguring devices..Can somebody tell me if that can be bypassed please? this is a slow pc to begin with, I need it to boot as fast as possible. Thanks. Posted by tempestuous on June 22 2005,04:35
It definitely works, I just tried it while booting from liveCD.Is it possible that you amended your LILO configuration file, but forgot to run "lilo" afterwards? |
