Do you see any error messages?
Where in the boot process does it fail?
What's the last thing you can read?

Can you still boot from the DSL CD?

well there is one error when mkliloboot starts richt after dsl-hdinstall about that /proc/partitions does not exists but i beleef the script creates one then becouse when i checht there was a file /proc/partitions.....

Then it askes me 'reboot' i say: yes

And I pull out the cd when my cdrom drive opens en my system reboot's

Then it's supose to boot from HD(First boot drive is my HD)
but the system then find's no device to boot from
and 'insert a system disk' appears on the sreen

But yes i can still boot from cd and when it's booted and I look at /mnt/hda2 I can see that he did copie all the data to that partition

But there must be somthing rong whit lilo I think

(Sorry that i did't give more info earlyer I was i little distrakted)

I'm having similar difficulties to juswes.
I tried to do a hd install to a USB hd, but on reboot, after the bios finishes I just get a single character on the screen 'L', and there it freezes. Guessing theres something up with the mbr

prehaps I will have more joy with grub than lilo...

I had a similar error ( missing /proc/partitions ).  I thought it was probably caused by something incorrect in the dsl-hdinstall script.  For the curious: Try viewing the script, and find where the errors occur.  If you do not know where the script is, run the find command:

$sudo find / -name dsl-hdinstall -print

I solved my problem by adding anything the script reported missing... After partitioning, and while su, I did mkdir /proc/partitions.  When other errors for missing directories showed up, I added them, too.  I don't know if I fixed the installation, or just allowed DSL to limp home.  After rebooting, DSL on HDD worked.
