AMD Athlon 750Forum: HD Install Topic: AMD Athlon 750 started by: arew264 Posted by arew264 on July 01 2005,22:12
Hey everybody, I'm currently running a DSL server with apache, mysql, and php. I was wondering what the classification for an AMD Athlon 750 was, as I am about to replace the 150MHz Pentium running the server. Is it an i386? or is that Intel only? If I connect the hard drive running the server right now (the current board seems to be i586) will it run? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to know this info.

Of course an athlon is i386 compatible (otherwise huge numbers of programs wouldn't run on it without recompilation). Seeing as DSL autodetects hardware on bootup I can't see any reason why just swapping the hard disk wouldn't work.

its not just dsl, its also apache, php, etc. Thanks for your post. I also just learned that I'm gonna buy a new hard drive anyway (running the server on a different major distro) because the server will be fast enough and have enough storage that it wont need dsl. just an FYI though, don't feel like im betraying all you people because I still run DSL on my laptop. THanks for your help
