I did an hd install on an old Compaq laptop, which went great, but after reboot it's asking for the box login:  What do I enter in here?

'box' is the default hostname of DSL systems.
Typically you'd enter a username and password, but DSL should automatically log you in by default.  My guess is that you set up a password during the installation, or set it up as a multi-user system (I'm not sure but maybe just press enter when it asks for a password if you haven't set one up yet?), or maybe there is something wrong, and KNOPPIX is not loading.

I think First boot HD asks you to set user and root passwords,
so its user dsl and whatever pass you like and same for root or super user.

Thanks for the help guys.  I'm a Mac user but want so badly to be linux user.  I really like the simplicity of DSL, but there are a few terms and other things that really trip me up.

Anyway, I did fresh install and followed the directions better on reboot. I chose the multi user option, so after reboot it has you set a pw for root and dsl. In hind site it was a dumb question.

Later.
