I really do not want to change my master boot record.  Does hdinstall, poorman's install, or frugal install change the MBR?

I've been using tohd and fromhd and it seems to work just fine.  I'm not sure what I'm missing with the other installs...

BTW, where is the DSL data stored on the hard disk with tohd?  What is the name of the file?

The HD install just alters the partition table of the HD inside the BIOS.

For really be sure just use the USB install?
In the HOWTO forum are some guides.

Cheers

hdinstall: Yes
Poorman's: No
frugal: Yes

tohd and fromhd are similar to a poorman's install.

The DSL livecd data should be stored on the hard drive in your /KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX file.

If you use the DSL Backup/Restore process, your data is usually backed up to the /backup.tar.gz file.

I couldn't say exactly what any of those installs do when run with a script, but doing a manual poormans does not touch the bootloader:

Mount the iso file, copy the contents onto harddrive and you're done.

Or burn the CD and copy the contents to harddrive.
