greetings all.

i finally got damn small working on a new machine. i set it up to install on hda, which was totally blank. ive got mandrake linux running on hdb - i thought that when setting up lilo it would autodetect the mandrake. i dunno, im a total noob, slap me =)

anyhow, can someone throw me a bone? let me know how to set it up so that i can dual boot?

thanks,

Try using the "Search" button at the top of this page.
Then search for keyword "Lilo"
Choose search ALL FORUMS
Choose FROM THE BEGINNING or NEWER

Also, you might want to go back again and try keyword "grub" if your lilo search is unsuccessful.

Good Luck.

let me explain my problem a bit more in detail.

this system initially only had 1 HD, which contained windows ME.
last night, i put in a second, and ran the mandrake 9.2 install, just to the new HD. everything was totally kosher, the lilo menu allowed me to boot to mandrake or to windows without any problems.

i never intended on keeping windows on the primary drive, so i used mandrake's DiskDrake tool to reformat it this mourning. i then ran DSL and did the HD install, all the way thru the lilo configuration. i assumed that it would automatically detect the info for booting into mandrake, but it didnt, as when i rebooted the machine it went straight into DSL.

i used the mandrake cds to get myself back into mandrake, which is where i am writing this from right now. if i try to use lilo, or grub, it still seems to think that windows is on the primary drive, and when i select that, i get errors and it doesnt boot to anything.

so, im stuck. i tried searching the forums as requested, and maybe i didnt look hard enough but i couldnt find anything that seemed helpful. is it possible to just add an entry to the lilo.conf? if so, what do i need to put in it?

thanks in advance,

It seems to me like your specific circumstance requires a manual edit of the lilo configuration file to bring everything back to life.

Since I don't use Lilo, I am not the best person to give you that information.

Hopefully, the Lilo Mini-Howto will help:

Could you post your current lilo.confs for mandrake and DSL, and Ill see if I can help.

Also, dont mix up mourning and morning - in the context of talking about windows, someone might think you were sad at losing that abomination ;)
