HD install with no internet connection.Forum: HD Install Topic: HD install with no internet connection. started by: Lucaspr Posted by Lucaspr on May 13 2004,16:28
Hi, How can I do an enhanced installation without an internet connection?? In DSL 0.7 the script asks if I have an internet connection and when I say I do, but I haven't, then it suddenly stops working. Which is of course a good thing. But now my question is: How can I make a enhanced install without the internet connection? (Have a Nforce2 chipset, so I'll have the need for an hdd install to get my eth0 working ) Posted by maybrick on May 22 2004,00:24
I would like to know how to do this, too.In my office, I have a cable connection and I can download things pretty fast. But at home I can only use a phone connection, and at 33600 bps, it's kinda slow. If there is a way we can download the packages needed for the HD installation, burn them on a CD, and then install them using DSL, it could be wonderful. All we need then is a CD-RW and presto! Please consider this for the next version of DSL, John... Posted by roberts on May 22 2004,01:19
You can already do this.  Read "new extensions" thread and see how user "remo" installed extensions to hard drive.Grab gnu-utils.dsl. That is the "enhanced" part of the hard drive install. Posted by roberts on May 22 2004,01:26
Here is another thread which answers the same question.< http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....busybox > Posted by xanthi on June 18 2004,16:00

ok, i fixed this problem. I download package "dpkg-1.9.21_i386.nondebbin.tar" which contains the dpkg binary file and copy it to /usr and  /var directories. At the end i use  "dpkg.tar.gz" from this site and untared  in /var/lib directory. Now is dpkg structure working perfectly.
