1. Did you checksum the download?
2. How big is your partition?
3. Did you use 0.5.1 or 0.5.1.1?

  GOT IT!!! DL'd 0.5.1.1 Did a reinstall... did not see where the sign in was because my screen did not scroll down there... but I just started typing a certain word and kept on typing it and VOILA!!!

Now... the only thing left is to be able to install a Java plug in for firebird and create a swap file... so I will search the board for those answers... or I may be back to ask more stupid questions....

Thanks AGAIN!!

I noticed here a similar problem to my problem.  let me back up a bit.

Thank you for this wonderful distro.  It got me to config my old Laptop NEC VERSA 2760MT (166 Mhz Pentium) for my 79 year old mother.  I intstalled DNL 4.x several months ago, with only 32 Megs of RAM and then I wanted to put SuSE 9.0 on it.  The SuSE install quit telling me to get more RAM.  I bought 64 Megs and it was terrible.  I have now installed 5.1.1, but since this is for Mom I need to get it really polished.

Here is my current problem.  When it boots up, (now in text mode) the cursor is exactly 10 lines below the bottom of the screen.   It is looking for the login prompt.  I have set the root password, so I can get through that barrier.  I can then type startx and get it to go, or I can install it on another machine and write down my inputs, then re-install on the laptop and type it in without seeing it.

  Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance..  Bill Savoie

Found the problem!  My laptop needed vga=788 at the top of /etc/lilo.conf and that fixed the messed up text mode.  The old laptop can only handle 600x800.  Sorry to be learning general linux and not anything unique to dsl.  Great thing you are doing here.  Thanks again..  Bill Savoie
