Hello I am from germany and new to linux and not a real computerexpert.
I was looking for a linux distro to surf the net with on an older computer(amd233MHz). friends told me of ubuntu has possibillities with older hardware and during research i found DSLinux by accident.
First i had problems to find an iso file to download, cause its all in english, then i found a german page with version 0.8.0.
I burnt a cd and it works well and fast, also immediately connected with broadband router.
then i tried copy to hd with dsl tohd=/dev/hda1
....hda1 is not mountable...
now i got the 1.3 version(very nice screen and firefox is also within!), but it is the same.
It can not be a problem of the scsi adapter, because the cdrom drive is also scsi???
the hd is a quantum lightning with 800mb, dos formatted by a Windows boot floppy disk.
any ideas?
Its a pitty that dsl is yet not very well known in germany, so i found no german board, i will do my best to tell everybody, i just put a link on my homepage.

Is your hard drive SCSI or IDE?

If it is SCSI, it should be booted with:

dsl tohd=/dev/sda1

It is somewhat amusing the DSL is not very well known in Germany, since the core livecd upon which DSL is built was developed by Klaus Knopper & Friends.

Thanks for answering.
my harddrive is scsi.
I tried installing with "dsl tohd=/dev/sda1"
installing worked so far, till reboot.
"verifying dmi pool data
L_"  nothing happens
It does not boot from harddrive. Maybe i made some mistake with dos formatting or during installation.
I will try more or i get an old IDE harddrive.
greetings from old europe

I have the same problem (not mountable) but this solution didn\t help me. Ive tried doing a hdinstall to different harddrives, a maxtor usb drive, a pendrive, and my main harddrive, but every combination Ive tried fails. I\ve checked the names of the different drives in Emelfm, but so far no sigar. Im also a newbie by the way, so i would love to get a solution. Perhaps the wiki should be updated about this problem.

Is it possible to copy the iso to hd after booting dsl and mounting a drive manually

It appears that there is a problem with your LILO linux bootloader configuration.

I would try to boot via CDROM and see if you can make changes to your LILO config file.

Or better yet, reinstall with the GRUB bootloader instead of LILO as the general opinion is that GRUB is easier to understand than LILO.
