hello,

I've done a hard drive install of dsl 1.4 and ran synaptic to get gnucash, but it removes x because of broken dependencies!

any ideas?

I changed the oldstable to unstable in the source.list file and seems like it might work. I'll keep you posted

Argh,

okay. so now I can get all the packages and keep x, but can't set up gnucash, as apt-get quits when it tries to set up libpaper1.

"dpkg: error processing libpaper1 (--configure):
subprocess post installation script returned error exit status 1"

what should I do??

eeek.

okay, managed to do a horrible workaround by running
dpkg --force-depends --install gs-common_0.3.8_all.deb

which was one of the ones which depended on libpaper. Now that that one was sorted I could carry on with the normal apt-get.
Now I just keep getting an error every time I run because of libpaper1.... annoying
