I am not sure what the deal with a root password is. If someone could enlighten me I would be gratefull. But I know you can log into root by typing 'sudo su', the password is not required.

There is no password until you set one.  Do as adssse says to become root.  At this point you can enter the "passwd" command to set a root password.

What password should I use to ftp into a dsl system?I tried using passwd to set the root/dsl password to something I knew, but that didn't work for ftp access. Any ideas? Posted by chris on Aug. 17 2005,16:24
Using adduser to create a new user gives me a name/password that works with ftp.

I've done this:sudo passwd dsl then enter a password. When I ftp to it, i just log in as dsl and use the password i set. Posted by chris on Aug. 17 2005,18:36
Strange. I tried that earlier (several times), and it didn't work.It does now... Oh well, thanks! |
