Hello everyone . I`m new on the list and my english is not to good so forgive me if i will do some errors .Now I have problems installing DSL 0.7.3 on the hard drive. My configuration is an old Gateway Solo 9150 laptop with fallowing configuration Intel P II 333 Mhz , 4 GB HDD , DVD-ROM , Super disk drive ( 120MB floppy ), TV in , TV out , quadro audio output , 2 USB Ports , 2 serial , 1 CRT and more features. I`ve proceed to Hard Drive instal script but when I told to the script " my partition number is hda5 " did not recognized end is exiting without any error message. The same instalation from an DSL 0.6.3 worked perfect on my laptop. The partion ext 2 (83) type was created with Partition Magic 8.0 , this for both DSL distros , on 0.6.3 it was worked perfect but in 0.7.3 does not worked. So how can I corect the instatlation issues? The fstab from 0.6.3 it is diferent from 0.7.3 , i dont have the samples of fstab at me right now but tomorow morning I will bring it to you. Right now I`m working under DSL 0.6.3 and I`ve done a lot of improvementes , like : - fluxbox 0.9.9 develeopement version install worked perfect and we set menu alpha to 100 , slit transparency to 0 and aterm transparency to 100 . Also i`ve set MC transparency and icon changing from those of Noia ( converted from PNG to GIF ) and some very cool themes from www.ikaro.dk - Crossover Office install finished succesfull , with MS Office intalled in and Internet Explorer 6.0 - Super Karamba installed - XCalendar installed and much more improvements. I will do some screenshots with my desktop and upload somwhere to see te DSL new face . I think the DSl is the future for desktop use. Fast install , easy adminitration , hardware autodetection , it is the coolest stuuf . UPS , I all most forget , yesterdey i`ve done the brazilian pachage instalation ( i dont know why , maybe because of the rush ... whatever , what i`ve done is done) and mai keyboard layout is changed the "/" key is generate ";" and other spookye characters , how can I change it to US keymap? Another problem is , how ca I set the wallpaper on boot time? i`ve set in .xinitrc the fallowing line: fbsetbg -l /home/untitled1.jpg & but does not applyng wallpaper on the boot . It`s generate the fallowing error : " the fbsetbg did not find any last recorded walppaper, the walppaer was not set" so , every boot i`ve enter on console and type : fbset -l /home/untitled1.jpg Thats IT , THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR UNDERSTANDING With all do my respect . check to see if dsl is able to see the partion with cfdisk if it can see it it should work, if it cant see it you may want to remake the partion under dsl to see if that works, have seen a post recently simular to this and there where too many partitions fdisk couldn't list them all.............To sort out your keyboard problem edit xserverrc add the line loadkeys us above the defalut line this will then load us keys with every boot!!!!...... hope this helps Posted by ergun on Aug. 17 2004,10:13
All ready done the cfdisk stuff from DSL 0.7.3 but still no effect.I`ve told you , tomorow i will bring the both fstab ( o.6.3 and 0.7.3) to compare. Why 0.6.3 worked without any issues? Thank you very much for keyboard advice. With respect , Aygun PS: I cant find an FREEVO.deb pakage . Anyone find out where we can download it? Posted by ke4nt1 on Aug. 17 2004,11:48
Replace your "fbset -l /home/untitled1.jpg &"with this "bsetbg -f /home/untitled1/jpg &" 73 ke4nt Posted by dukkieduk on Aug. 17 2004,19:55
