Beginner Success StoryForum: HD Install Topic: Beginner Success Story started by: cowboy Posted by cowboy on Aug. 31 2004,19:05
I downloaded the 0.8.0 iso and burned a CD. It booted with no problems. I used cfdisk to create two partitions on the hard drive, a 400 MB, bootable, ext2 Linux type 83 and a 134 MB, Linux Swap type 82. I then rebooted as suggested by cfdisk. Next I used Apps > Tools > Install to Hard Drive to install DSLinux to the hda1 partition. It took about 6 minutes for the installation program to copy the files to hda1. I answered yes to use mkliloboot to install lilo to the MBR. This was a very easy hard drive installation and when I booted, I started Dillo and got an immediate connection to the Internet! It doesn't get much better! Thanks, cowboy Posted by DonttPanic on Sep. 01 2004,02:53
That was very similar to my first experience with DSL. The only difference was that I didnt know what root was, and that it was needed for cfdisk. It's very easy to get started with DSL.
