error when starting dslForum: HD Install Topic: error when starting dsl started by: haydn Posted by haydn on Aug. 25 2005,02:59
I'm trying to install dsl on old 486 laptop from floppy drive. I downloaded cd image, made those .rar files and unzipped them from d: to c: drive. I downloaded boot floppy and started dsl but it says:
Acessing DSL image at /dev/hda1...modules/cloop.o: init_module: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry. Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.
I checked io/irq and there shouldn't be nothing wrong... my primary drive looks just like cd-image when opened. What could be wrong? Did you point the bootfloppy to where the image is? Try this at boot: dsl fromhd=/dev/hda1 or, dsl bootfrom=/path/to/imageBUT, the knoppix file has to be in a folder called /knoppix, bootfrom just redirects it to there... same goes for fromhd, but it should be in the root of the drive. Have fun with it and I hope this helped =P Posted by guest on Aug. 25 2005,10:24
Maybe you need a KNOPPIX directory and not a knoppix directory. But I'm not sure. Posted by friedgold on Aug. 25 2005,11:11
Yep, I believe it's case sensitive and so should be called /KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX (knoppix/knoppix won't work) Posted by cbagger01 on Aug. 25 2005,16:45
Maybe your 486 has problems with the cloop device driver. If so, I don't know how to fix the problem given the information provided.
