I installed dsl to my hard drive and when I try and select either runlevel 2 or 3 it still boots to the gui. How can I prevent this as I don't want the gui to load. Thanks Posted by Your Fuzzy God on Aug. 26 2005,22:07
What command are you typing? It's not "runlevel 2," just type "dsl 2" if you wish to enter run level 2.

I tried init 2 and I also tried changing it in inittab when I type runlevel it shows runlevel 2

anyone got an answer? I don't even need or want the gui, is it possible to uninstall it? it's just going to be a server and no matter what runlevel it is in it loads X. I would be willing to reinstall if that's what it takes to get only a command prompt. Also lilo automatically loads linux immediately so I can't type in dsl 2 or single or whatever.

The default runlevel (5) is actually text mode, but starts X when user dsl logs in. Runlevel 2 is a single-user level which logs in root on all ttys.A quick way to prevent X from starting in runlevel5 is to remove "startx" from /home/dsl/.bash_profile. I wrote a little piece about setting up DSL in the "typical" Linux way here: < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....;t=7936 > |
