Greetings
I am a total linux dsl noob
I have been though about 5 hd installs and reformats
a few things are complicating usability of the dsl environment

1. Customiztion
I have found some flexibility in the general apperance of by downloading themes I would like to be able to tweek the visual appearance of them (currently naturered)
2. Access
My network gets the internet using DSL(not the linux os) connected to a d-link di-524 wireless router. The windows boxes tend to get a constant connection to the internet but mine seems to disappear after a couple hours. The only way for me to get access has been to connect into the dsl modem and cut the rest of the house off. Where can I find DHCP settings in DSLinux?
Also I am able to mount cdrom and dvdrom drives using the dockapp but in emflm (both as su and dsl) I am unable to access the information on disks I get the error check  etc/fstab (i have no idea what to do with this file I have looked at it but dont speak linux so I dont know what to tell it.
Also mplayer isnt letting me load dvds, or mp3's i have stored on the hard drive xmms plays harddrive stored mp3 but mplayer won't do anything.
3.  Applications
Some applications that I install and either dont need or can't get working I am unable to remove from the right click menu under mydsl. How is this achieved?
Also I cant find a way to make rar.dsl function to unrar my rar archives onto my hd.
Also I need help installing wine.

That said DSL kicks serious, I love it and am having fun getting familiar with linux using it. Is there a good primer for linux that explains how to get a decent grasp of  this OS?

Any answers will be welcomed, even noob insults...

1.  Download the "whitebox.dsl" extension and use it to customize your themes.  Just make sure to save them to /home/dsl/.fluxbox/styles instead of the /usr/share/fluxbox/styles  because /usr is usually not allowed to write via user account name "dsl".

2.  DHCP is managed automatically at boot.  You can reconfigure your network card via the "netcardconfig" script.  If you want to get "under the hood", please check out the pump command by typing

pump --help | more

from the xterminal window.

3. You can remove applications from the Fluxbox menu by using the whitebox.dsl extension, or you can edit the configuration file directly by typing

beaver /home/dsl/.fluxbox/menu

FYI, in Linux a file or directory is "hidden" from view if the name begins with a period "." character.  You can view these files in emelfm by pushing the "H" button at the top of the page.

From the xterminal window, you can view the files by typing

ls -a

instead of the usual

ls

To view them from within a "File Open" dialog box for commonly used GTK applications like Beaver, enter a period "." in the filename box and then push the TAB key on your keyboard and suddenly all of the hidden files/directories will appear.

I can't help you with the rar or wine problems.

Wine in particular is a very touchy program to get working, so you will need lots of patience and help in order to get it to work right.  I have never done so, but then again I didn't have a strong incentive to get it up and running OK so I gave up early.
