here's my situation

i have damnsmall installed on my xbox. Runs fine, but I want to be able to re-enter it as I left it.

my problem is that everything I do is saved with ramdisk and then discarded when I reboot. Even themes.

I have tried creating swap file, adding users, and the backup/restore utility, but i can't get anything going..

I also can't seem to find documentation to help me out. I'm probably just not looking in the right place, but I think here is a good start.

If anyone can help me out that would be SWEET

email or reply please and thank you!

There are some x--dsl users who frequent here, and may be able to assist you...

But there is not any data, FAQ's, or info in the forums and wiki to aid you
with specific x-dsl issues..

Searching our wiki may provide you with some generic info on the backup process,
but it sounds like you have that already..

The x-dsl wiki is a work in progress, good to check there for updates.

Lets see if someone comes forward with more info..

If you are already using the backup/restore process, you will need to add your chosen files to the list of files that get backed up.

Open emelfm and if needed, click on the "H" button to see the hidden files.

You should either have a "filetool.lst" or a ".filetool.lst"

Right click on the file and choose "View in beaver" from the user menu.

Then add the files that you want to your list. For example:

home/fluxbox/.dillo

is the directory that contains your dillo settings.

or

home/.mozilla/firefox/

for the directory that contains your firefox settings.

Then save this file list and exit beaver.

Then these files should be backed up when you shut down.

thanks for replying
I tried saving two themes in filetool.dsl and even included the names of each. I then backed up /home/dsl (which is /ramdisk/home/dsl), and while i'm shutting down I get the message
"searching hint
searching hint
searching hint
error
/home/dsl not a valid device"

..or something along those lines...

Is there something I'm missing?

thanks again..

Your backup device name should not be "/home/dsl"

Instead, your backup device name should be something like

hda50

for example (E: drive on your xbox)

See the X-DSL thread on Xbox-Scene for more help.
