You'll have to excuse me if this is a silly question....

I have (successfully) done a frugal install (ver. 0.6.2) on a 256Mb compant flash card - using a cf to ide adapter (on a pc with no processor or power supply fan - totally silent :D ) and it works nicely - backing up/restoring standard settings is fine, monkey is working, e.t.c. I have used a frugal install as it is a compact flash card, so there is a 55 meg partition for the image and a 200 meg approx partition for (a) backup and (b) manually mounting for file/document storage e.t.c.

With this configuration, how can I tweak lilo?

I am guessing it is possible because it does not stop at boot with the chance to put in custom settings like a CD boot so it must've been modified during the install process.....  but if I modify /etc/lilo.conf it will not let me save, saying it is a read only file system (even though I have done a sudo su to get root access)..... and I'm guessing even if I put lilo.conf into the backup list and modified "a copy" of it I then wouldnt be able to run lilo at it'd be read only... or would I?

Thanks

Well I had no response to this for a week so I've had to get off my arse, and do some work figuring it out for myself :D

I booted from the live cd, and had a look at frugal_instal.sh....... it appears to create it's lilo.conf on the fly, as part of the script. Bearing in this in mind, i manually typed the commands from the script that mount hda1 and got at lilo.conf that way, and re-ran lilo - effectively re-creating that little bit of the install script. And yep, it worked - so if I need to make any changes to the default file system I guess I can just boot from the live cd and mount it manually! :D
