Hello folks. :)

I'm going to be installing DSL 1.5 (CD image) onto a computer that has Win2000 on one partition.  I'm familiar with installing Ubuntu and SuSE and Fedora onto a HD with a Windows partition, so what I want to know is if the DSL install will be similar to those.  I realize it's not going to be a graphical install like SuSE or Fedora, but I'm curious as to whether DSL's grub is good at picking up other partitions and putting them in the boot-loader.

Thanks.

I've been reading a bit on this board, and so thought it might be worth adding a bit more to my original post.

My situation is thus: I was given a work compter (at...er...work ??? ) which came with Windows 2000 installed.  I was kinda interested in this cause I'd heard good things about Win2000 but had never used it before.  Well, I wasn't given admin privilages with the computer, therefore I was unable to load up programs like Firefox, Thunderbird, etc that I was comfortable using.  The computer had a 5 gig partition that wasn't being used, so I decided to load up Ubuntu 5.10 on that partition.  However, Ubuntu runs really slow on this computer (Celeron 1ghz, 128mb RAM).  So, I thought, this would be a good time to try out DSL.

I want to keep that Win2000 partition for the sole fact that it's set up to use the office printer via the office network.  I was thinking about doing a HD install, but after reading the thread about a frugal install, I've decided that would be a better option.

So, I want to do a frugal install and keep the Win2000 partition as an option at boot time.  During the install process, will I be given that option?  And, if so, is it a command line thing?

Thanks.

Hello!

Don't worry, the frugal installer will keep your Win2000 partition. It will install the boot loader (go for GRUB, it is easier to "play" with it) in the MBR of your HD and you'll have the option to boot DSL or Win2000. I did a frugal install few days ago with the difference that I allready had GRUB on my PC.
I also had Ubuntu for a while and it worked so-so (Cel. 600MHz, 192 MB RAM). I think, you'll be amazed with the speed of DSL.

Greetings!
