Do you have a RAID controller in your computer?  There have been problems reported with some kinds of RAID controllers and newer versions of KNOPPIX.

DSL 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 is based upon KNOPPIX 3.1  (works)

DSL 0.6 and 0.7 is based upon KNOPPIX 3.3  (problems reported)
