the TP600 contains a Crystal 4237B chip

this site refers to the problem

and talks about Success been reported using both OSS and ALSA.

however i am rather new to this whole things and am not really sure what do about it. i dont know how to recompile the kernal and all that so i am kinda stuck as far as  ALSA goes. and for the OSS well i am currently struggling with that. this site tells you what to do but like i said, i am an early learner.

hope this helps

If you have windblows on this laptop you can get the info on the sound card from the device manager
OR you may be able to get the info from < http://ibm.com > do a search on your modle and type numbers
I think ibm keeps the specs for there computers on line for 10 years once you know what chip your sound card is built from you can look it up in the kernel source docs
