i have windows 98 on bootable c: and some kind of extended partition i think (used fdisk some time ago, agian i think) on d:
4GB hard drive, can i repartition easily to install dsl on the hard drive?

i tried it and it worked great. i used qtparted.dsl to resize my original windows partition and created the needed system partition for the image, a swap partition and one for my /home and /opt directories.

i installed the grub-frugal version and it worked perfect.

Back-up important data before doing any playing with partitions.

It's possible to do it painlessly, but plan for a total reinstall.

What data do you have on the D: and what size is it.  It may be possible to just delete that partition then let DSL install to that partition (usually hda5) which would format it as well.
