Dillo Getting StartedForum: HD Install Topic: Dillo Getting Started started by: jimbo62 Posted by jimbo62 on Oct. 13 2005,18:45
OK, I followed the FAQ about commenting out the "dillo" line in /home/dsl/.xinitrc, but Dillo still opens with the "getting started" page. I have version 1.2Any ideas? Thanks, jimbo Posted by mikshaw on Oct. 13 2005,19:00
The FAQ suggestion prevents Dillo from starting automatically when X starts, but does not affect Dillo's start page when loaded from the menu. If you look in $HOME/.fluxbox/menu you'll probably see that the Dillo line starts Dillo specifically with the "getting started" page.

Thanks for your reply, but that is exactly what I mean. When X starts, dillo also starts with the "getting started" page displayed. Thanks, jimbo Posted by clivesay on Oct. 13 2005,19:23
Jim -How are you running DSL? Frugal? HD install? Persistent /home or /opt. Let us know your configuration. Chris Posted by jimbo62 on Oct. 13 2005,19:26
Hard drive se install. Everything works very well but I am sick and tired of seeing the Dillo getting started page every time I boot. Thanks for any help, jimbo Posted by mikshaw on Oct. 13 2005,20:44
Are you logging in as a different user? That's the only thing I can think of. If that's the case then changing files in /home/dsl will have no effect. Try editing /home/jimbo/.xinitrc instead.

I almost always log in as "root". Any other suggestions? It acts like there is another file being used. Is there an alternative or a backup to .xinitrc? Thanks, jimbo Posted by clivesay on Oct. 14 2005,03:06
Hmm, not sure what file is used when you login as root. Could it be the .xinitrc in /etc/skel?Chris Posted by jimbo62 on Oct. 14 2005,13:51
Well, there is a .xinitrc in /etc/skel but it has no effect on the dillo page at boot. But, the .xinitrc in /root does control the dillo page at boot. So with the dillo line commented out, my DSL now boots without the dillo getting started page. That brings up another question. I could not find a "find file" application in my installation. Any suggestions on a good find file app for DSL? Thanks, jimbo Posted by clivesay on Oct. 14 2005,14:28
Glad you found it. My /root dir doesn't have the user files because I've never logged in completely as root so I never thought of that. You can use 'whereis' but I just tried it with .xinitrc and it didn't return anything. Maybe it has issues with hidden files or needs a specific flag. There is also 'locate'. I think you need gnu-utils.dsl for it to work. You do an 'updatedb' and then something like 'locate .xinitrc' and it'll find all occurances. If you do 'locate *.lst' it will find all files with the '.lst' suffix. Chris Posted by jimbo62 on Oct. 14 2005,15:02
OK, thanks again. I had forgotten the command line "find file" stuff. GUIs make your brain atrophy. :-) The package needed is "findutils" and is included in the base DSL. Commands to find .xinitrc are: find / -name .xinitrc or locate .xinitrc (But the database may have to be updated with: updatedb) jimbo |
