Installing on hdd from a live dsl cd

Can somebody please explain step by step on how to install dsl from a live cd on to a old 250mbs hdd ? The problem im havin is don't know how to get fdisk to open and make partitons, how big they should be & how many? Im totaly new at this and think dsl is awsome !!!

It can be done with just one big partition, but if you don't have much ram it's a good idea to make a swap partition. The general rule for swap is to make it twice the size of your actual ram.  Just in case you don't know, this makes an extended- if somewhat slow- memory system. My system has 256 Mb ram with 500 Mb swap, but I honestly don't think the swap has ever been touched.
