Hi!Here's a tutorial I wrote on installing DSL to your hard drive. I havent got a v1.5 yet (there is 1.2 and 1.3) but I dont think think it is very different. < http://zjd.zj.funpic.org/cool/dsllinuxwelcome.html > *my site got shut down for a little, link fixed Tell me what you think! -Andrew Posted by lostcity on Oct. 18 2005,12:49
While DSL is supposed to be a "live" distro, I personally use the hd install on my aging laptop that only ever ran Win95. The laptop runs cooler. Anyway, the instructions look accurate and the addtiion of qtParted is really helpful. Just my .02

In nero there should be an option such as "burn image". Also run an md5sum on the iso to make sure it is error free.

OK, sorry about that. My website got shut down there (on a freehost!). I fixed the link above and the new website is < http://zjd.zj.funpic.org/cool/dsllinuxwelcome.html > .If you want to install linux, go there. Pretty easy, just a little command lining! Thanks, and sorry for the problem! Posted by Ron on Nov. 03 2005,18:26
hduser and everybody,The tutorial by ajd344 on hard-drive installation is back--see the posting above again. If you're using Windows to make a CD from an .iso file, the easiest way is to use ISO Recorder, which works on Win XP and 2003 (but not the earlier versions of Windows). These links are about ISO recorder, and the second one also discusses Nero and other programs: < http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm > < http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm > If I understand correctly, you're burning individual .rar files to CD, then trying to boot the CD. That won't work. I have never done it myself, so check on it, but I understand that there is a procedure for assembling individual .rar files into one bigger .iso. Then the .iso is burned to CD. You should be able to download DSL as one .iso file even with a dialup connection. You will want to use a download manager, like Download Express or even the one included in the Firefox browser. From one Linux newbie to another, good luck! |
