I've just installed DSL on an old Presario 1621 and it runs great.  I also did the Frugal install so my wife could use the laptop without the CD.  My problem comes when you boot up it always prompts for FB settings, I have to choose fb800x600 and then it opens the xsetup window.  I don't mind entering these every time, but my wife hates it.  Can I make these setting permanent with the Frugal install?
Thanks in advance, and please remember I'm such a nubie that I only just now figured out how to navigate the Linux file structure.

I'm no expert but I think I had same issue. I hit the backup button in the control panel. On restart these boot settings( e.g. fb800x600 ) were remembered, as well as mouse, screen resolution, etc. Backup asks for location and I chose same as install location ( e.g. hda1 for me ).
Check it out.
Don't want to annoy the missus! And it is annoying.

Except I'm on a full, not frugal, hard drive install. So what would I know? The HELP in the control panel also describes how to save settings.

When setting up your frugal install did you set up any paramaters for mydsl, home, opt, backup/restore etc?

I was not prompted for any settings.  I just loaded the beta when this started happening.  1.5 only prompted for the Frame Buffer settings.

You have to change the bootloaders config file and adjust what to show and what defaults you want to have.

Being that I am a relative newbie, coud you, maybe, give me an idea as to what to change and/or where this file lives?

If you are running lilo it will be lilo.conf or if you are using grub it will be menu.lst. I find grub easier to use but if you search the forums for either file you should be able to find results on how to edit it.

I've modded the menu.lst to no avail, but I finally managed to do a full HDD install and now I'm just prompted for the FB settings.

BTW, DSL revived my old Compaq Pre(tty sorr)io 1621 quite well.  Still not fast, but faster than Windoze 9X.  I'm starting to feel a little like a Linux user now.

Thanks for the advice,
