Hi,

How can I disable ramdisk?

I have a frugal hd install made from the worthful pdf documentation and forum posts . The machine is a Thoshiba 500CS Laptop with 32 MB RAM and 1.2 GB IDE-Harddisk. I use the grub bootmanager. hda1 and hda2 are 128 MB swap space each, KNOPPIX resides at hda3 55 MB size and the rest, almost 1 GB is for mydsl.

fb800 e.g. runs fine with no problems so far, but I have problems with "mydsl restore home opt" kernel options.
/ramdisk is 20.5 MB only and cannot be increased unless I have bought a bigger RAM module, right?
The problem is it runs full very fast when doing a few things especially when adding packages with MyDSL. I have tested the RAM with memtest86 al right. When /ramdisk is run ful, commands cannot be executed anymore, I reboot with magical sysreq, then. Sometimes the machine just freezes.

So, my question is, why at all is a ramdisc used, if you have a frugal harddisk install with a big harddisk partition to place new files? Can it be disabled to write to hd directly?

Is there a nice pdf available which tells how to do it - or will there be one, soon? And, will the mydsl partition be capable to be the unionfs part over the KNOPPIX image one day?

At the time I can not use DSL as I would like to, nor do I have found another small distribution, which is capable to have the tools I need supporting cardbus.
