offline install problemForum: HD Install Topic: offline install problem started by: greenwom Posted by greenwom on Nov. 11 2005,20:48
I installed DSL on a old toshiba 430-CDT. runs like a champ.I'm trying to install the *.dsl files for gnu and dpkg so I can install ndiswrapper and get the wireless card working. I opened emelfm selected the .dsl files and then pressed the MyDsl button. apt-get and dpkg work but when I try to $ sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper.deb I get dpkg parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/status' near line 17283: invalid package name (may not be empty string) What do I do? the point of using DSL was to get this box online so I need some help. I don't know what version of DSL you are using for this..The 2.0 versions are no longer a match to the debian repositories, and may try to install things like new modules, kernel, etc.. I'd refrain from dpkg, if using 2.0 series. Your post read that you.. 1. selected the .dsl files ( one at a time, please. ) 2. pressed the mydsl button in emelfm.. You should do this for EACH .dsl file, not as a group. ndiswrapper is already in DSL versions 1.5 and up, so no need to install it from debs. Look in your control panel for the ndiswrapper GUI. 73 ke4nt Posted by greenwom on Nov. 12 2005,23:26
Ok, thanks for no smashing me I grabbed the lattest DSL iso. I didn't know or tro think to check what tools came in the install. Here's what I got: a toshiba 430-cdt with DSL installed to the HD a Dlink Air DWL-650 card Ver. V.P1 neither the prism2 or ndiswrapper tool work. I tried install ihe inf file via the command line with ndiswapper. ndiswrapper -l says no hardware present. I noticed a boot up the system sees the card via pcmcia services and it does have pwr. I'm kind of lost. I tried messing with the /etc/network/interfaces file to see if I could add wlan0. |
