unable to change hostnameForum: HD Install Topic: unable to change hostname started by: minster Posted by minster on Nov. 11 2005,20:57
I searched the forums but didn't find anything about this:I have DSL installed on about 45 computers and am experiencing problems when using rdesktop and using IBM iSeries client. It seems as if DSL/rdesktop is telling our terminal server that the computer name is 'box' (which it is) and the AS400 see's 45 of the same user logged in, which isn't good. I have tried numerous commands (hostname namehere included). I am able to change the hostname but it won't stay after a reboot. Make the hostname stay after a reboot? P.S. Other settings stay (changes to fluxbox, etc.) Thanks in advance. Posted by mikshaw on Nov. 11 2005,20:59
Use the boot parameter "host=whatever"

Where is this located? Posted by adssse on Nov. 11 2005,21:30
Here is the section of the wiki on bootcodes. You will find the refered to host bootcode in the list.< http://damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Cheat_Codes > Posted by minster on Nov. 11 2005,21:43
I can't really do this because I'm not booting from the cd, I'm booting from the HDD. (no DSL splash screen where I can enter these cheat codes)

You may have to edit your bootloader. I believe for lilo, the file is lilo.conf and for grub it is menu.lst. You can search for either on the message boards for more info on how to edit it.
