I searched the forums but didn't find anything about this:

I have DSL installed on about 45 computers and am experiencing problems when using rdesktop and using IBM iSeries client. It seems as if DSL/rdesktop is telling our terminal server that the computer name is 'box' (which it is) and the AS400 see's 45 of the same user logged in, which isn't good.

I have tried numerous commands (hostname namehere included). I am able to change the hostname but it won't stay after a reboot.

Make the hostname stay after a reboot?

P.S. Other settings stay (changes to fluxbox, etc.)

Thanks in advance.

Here is the section of the wiki on bootcodes. You will find the refered to host bootcode in the list.

I can't really do this because I'm not booting from the cd, I'm booting from the HDD. (no DSL splash screen where I can enter these cheat codes)

You may have to edit your bootloader. I believe for lilo, the file is lilo.conf and for grub it is menu.lst. You can search for either on the message boards for more info on how to edit it.
