I am having some trouble with the HD install of DSL. I can logon and run some programs, after about 20 mins of use the computer freezes and I can't do anything. I am wondering what the problem is.

I've experienced this. I think It's just a good ol fashion Crash.  just press Ctrl Alt Delte. and type startx ^_^ Sometimes it works. But I'd like to see if anyone can figure out the very cause.

I would start troubleshooting by running "top" and seeing if any program is using excess amounts memory.  Keep track of the memory usage for about 10 min. to make sure there are no memory leaks.  If you never come close to using all of your memory then it could be a bad memory module.

Run a memory diagnostic program like < Microsoft's Memory Diagnostic >. (Note that this program is by microsoft so you will need to create the startup disk via a windows machine or with wine).

Also a lot of freezing problems are caused by heat.  If you don't use excess amounts of memory and there are no memory i/o errors, then you should check to make sure that your computer is not getting too hot.  I could be way off with my suggestions, but that is where I would start.

Good Luck,

Give us some better specs of your machine please

Processor, HD space, RAM...have you run a harddrive scan to ensure the drive isnt dying...or the memoryscan?

Do you have a swap partition?
