well, im getting an error messege saying,

Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.
Press reset buttin to quit

Well, this was only my second time running DSL ever, the first time it ran like a charm but then i tryed to install unto the hard drive and that didnt work obviously and i just need a way to undo wat i did.... BTW, im using a floppy boot. BTW, im new 2 linux so explain things with great detail.... :laugh:

I met that message, too.
Another problem, I burn a CD (at 16x speed), then I boot my computer by that CD. It's working perfectly. But when I use this CD to boot in other computer, it's not working (I'm correct the CMOS, and try Windows boot CD- it' OK).
Tell me why

You really want to be using the frugal / poorman's install. To do that all you need to get onto the hard disk in the first place is the directory call KNOPPIX with the file called KNOPPIX in it, from the CD. The KNOPPIX file MUST be in the directory KNOPPIX, not in the root directory. When you boot from the floppy it will then fin this 'filesystem' & run DSL from it. You can then choose the frugal install option from the menu so you don't need to use the floppy any more.

You need to make sure both the directory & filename for KNOPPIX are all in capitals.

If you are having problems determining whether the names are all capitals, or changing them so the are all capitals get yourself a copy of tomsrtbt (www.toms.net). This is a floppy sized linux that will let you access the system to check & if need be change the filenames.

Tomsrtbt is command line only. Once it starts up you'll need to mount the hard drive manually & then chaeck the filenames. To do this use:

cd /
md mnt
cd mnt
md hda
mount /dev/hda1 hda
cd hda
ls [this should list the directory KNOPPIX]
cd KNOPPIX
ls [this should list the file KNOPPIX]

If either the directory or filename are incorrect (not all capitals) use:

mv <filename> KNOPPIX

where <filename> is the name as shown by the ls command (capitalisation is important here).

The above assumes you have the KNOPPIX directory copied to the first partition of the first hard drive.

Also ther partition should not be formated NTFS. If it is reformat it to something elase like FAT16 or ext2 (you can do this with tomrtbt, then mount the cd - probably hdc - & copy the KNOPPIX directory over)

okay, so..... download the frugal grub .sh file, then wat.... i mean, i finally got XP workin so now i can get into the hard drive with more ease... also, wat is this KNOPPIX file u talk about...

still kinda lost, dont tell me wat 2 do, tell me step by step... (i.e)- Download ****.img then use rawwrite to write the ****.img to floppy......) like everything step by step....
