cd/dvd drive mixupForum: Multimedia Topic: cd/dvd drive mixup started by: linuxlizard Posted by linuxlizard on Mar. 20 2006,19:40
DSL seems to be having a little problem on my system. I'm attempting to play a dvd in my dvd drive. xine and mplayer both yack up error messages when I try to play dvd. The thing is, I don't think the error is related to playing a dvd per say, but confusion with the cd drive and dvd drive, because when I tell it to play, the wrong drive lights up and spins. cdrom instead of cdrom1. cdrom is the drive I boot DSL from, and I boot to ram, so I know it's not looking for something from the DSL cd. can anyone help me with this? Thank you! Posted by mikshaw on Mar. 20 2006,21:16
The only thing I can think of is that maybe you booted from your slave drive. As far as I know, DSL will use the master cdrom as /dev/cdrom, regardless of which was used to boot. If this is the case, then the DVD would be cdrom and CD would be cdrom1.Of course i might be completely wrong.... Posted by linuxlizard on Mar. 20 2006,21:29
Thank you for your reply.Maybe it is something else other than what I'm thinking. I'm booting from the master drive- it's a cdrom, hdc The dvd drive is the slave- it's hdd If I go to Emelfm and mount cdrom1 that is my dvd drive. If I try to start a dvd from xine I get: -xine engine error- There is no input plugin available to handle 'dvd:/'. Maybe MRL syntax is wrong of file/stream source doesn't exist. and then another box opens beneath that says (/dev/dvd) mplayer tells me Can't open VMG info! I do have the mydsl codecs installed and they show when I boot. Anything? Thanks Posted by linuxlizard on Mar. 21 2006,15:17
Just wanted to say that I started over with a clean install of dsl so that it boots from my usb key and now dvd is working fine. I'm starting to suspect that my cdrom drive is starting to die on me (making funny noises and stopped seeing the dsl boot cd sometimes when I was booting) and maybe that has been the problem as it is the master.
