Hi,

I was thinking of putting my old hw into use and setup dsl to act as a webcam server. I though that instead of googling around I'd ask some good tips from experienced dsl users. What kind of setup (software and hardware) you would suggest? The tricky part is that the data will (or would) be sent via bluetooth-gsm (gprs) -combo :)

I'm also curious about DSL for webcam servers and for webcam support in general. Anybody?

My experience has been that getting a usb webcam to work with DSL (or any Linux distribution) has been hit and miss. If you have a usb webcam I would suggest you look in MyDSL repository for gqcam (I'm going from memory on this so all bets are off). Download gqcam (or maybe it's qgcam...) and see if it works with your webcam. If it doesn't work then there's a good chance that none of the programs will work with that webcam.  If it does work then you can use other MyDSL packages like 'motion', which is motion detection software.  There's also a module for making your machine into a webcam server but I can't remember the name. I think it was something like camServer.

Good luck.
